1700cc is actually 122cc increase in displacement .  THIS 8% ALSO INCREASES  HP by 8%.

NEW SQUISH/DISH DOME MAKES MORE POWER

  • Dished dome makes more power. Flame front travel distance is minimized when compressed charge concentrated directly under spark plugs combustion efficiency is improved.
  • Tall shoulders of dome "squash" the mixture at TDC creating a hurricare to distribute the flames.

HISTORY:  The 1700 conversion DATES back to 1970 when Autodelta built a special engine for the new IMSA series in the USA.  They bored a 1600 engine to 81mm, since 1700cc was the displacement limit of the class.  This factory Giulia Super finished that first IMSA race 1st in class and 1st overall, beating Camaros and Corvettes in that historic four-hour endurance race.

I have been doing 1700cc in customer cars since 1980.  I converted my own Giulia Super to 1700 in 1983 and it is still running today, 30,000 miles later.

COMPRESSION:

  • Compression of 10.5:1 is very happy with 90-93 octane fuel.
  • 1600 NORMALE AND 105 SERIES.  Compression of 10.5:1 is measured with standard head of 112mm height (101/105 heads) and 1.4mm Reinze gasket.
  • 1600 VELOCE compression will be 11.5:1 because these heads are Normale heads milled 1.0mm (.040") by the factory.
  • SS & SZ WARNING!  Sorry, but SS & SZ heads AND BLOCKS are milled 1.0-1.5mm from factory and will not work with our pistons.

FEATURES

  • Light weight
  • The standard 78mm liners can be bored to 81mm.  
  • Compression of 10.5:1 is measured with standard head of 112mm height and 1.4mm Reinze gasket.   WARNING:  .25mm milling = +.25:1 compression increase.  Customer should submit actual head chamber volume for absolute accuracy.
  • Deeper valve relief to accomodate most performance cams.
  • Larger diameter valve reliefs will accommodate oversize 42.5mm intake and 38mm exhaust valves.

This piston set includes standard wrist pins (109 grams) and conventional Ring Set.
