Free Travel Return Spring & Bracket Fits 1750/2000

Fits all clutch slave cylinders mounting on 2000/1750 gearboxes. The bracket mounts on the slave cylinder and provides a perch for on end of a spring. The other end fastens to the clutch release arm protruding out the side of the gearbox. The tension on this spring moves the release bearing away from engagement with the pressure plate spring some applications may require two springs (included). It returns the lever arm to a rest position and allows adjustment of "free travel" that is so important to the life of the clutch.

This was the standard arrangement on the 1750 hydraulic clutch release setup. When the 2000 engine was introduced, the return spring was eliminated and a spring was installed behind the piston in the slave cylinder that eliminated free travel and allowed full time contact. Now the release bearing was spinning 100% of the time.

This "updated" arrangement is no good for street and detrimental to a race clutch. All new slave cylinders come with spring loaded pistons. Fortunately, Alfa did not eliminate the return spring mounting role at the tip of the clutch lever arm. Both the Sachs and Tilton units require free travel for racing. An adjustable stop must be fabricated on the lever arm. Please see paulspruell.com for installation and free travel instructions.
