Whether for race or street, timing chains stretch and wear under load.   This retards the cam timing at high RPM.  Years ago we found that the German-made Iwis chains did not wear and stretch as much as other brands.  Long term wear is superior to all other brands.  Always use new chains when you rebuild an engine.
